Around July 2022, we came to know that "Gospel Text Publishers" have posted Gospel verses inside the transit buses in Mississauga. After praying and discussing, we approached Mississauga Transit (MiWay) to start a large campaign with Gospel verses inside the buses. We received approval and signed the contract.

As we were encouraged by that exercise, we decided to approach other transit companies to see if they were ready to post the Gospel verses in different cities. The response was overwhelming. In a very short time, we had thousands of verses inside buses, on bus shelters, inside trains and train stations, and on billboards all across Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton, York Region (Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and the surroundings) and Durham region (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa).

See the photos for examples. On each posting was an offer for a free Bible by calling a phone number monitored by one of the brothers. The nature of these calls covered a very broad spectrum. Very few of the calls were negative, and even some of the calls that began as negative turned positive and fruitful by the end. We received many requests for Bibles.

In the beginning, we tried to hand over the Bibles personally but soon discovered that delivery was not practical. We decided to involve as many assemblies as possible in this ministry. All the assemblies we contacted were happy to help. We started directing every caller who was requesting a Bible to the assembly nearest to their approximate location. We asked them to stop by around the time of the Gospel meeting, and many of them happily attended the Gospel meetings at different assemblies. Some are still regularly coming out to meetings. One young lady was baptized and is in fellowship now with the saints in one of the assemblies. We received calls from people requesting prayer due to their difficult circumstances, and we made sure that they heard the Gospel first.

The postings started with 3 verses: John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, and John 14:6. She used to dispute with her boyfriend and say that salvation is valuable and should cost us a lot like any other valuable things we obtain. One day she had the same argument with her boyfriend and left him upset. She always thought she needed to do good works to be saved. She told us that she entered the bus and saw this verse in front of her eyes. Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” She was in shock. It is never a happy thing to see an assembly disappear. We all miss the happy fellowship we shared there with our brothers and sisters. Although we are still in the middle of the story, we can see how God has and is working. He used the testimony of Eglinton for many years to touch the hearts of people in the neighborhoods round about it. He used the assembly members from Eglinton to aid and support the various other assemblies that they have now joined. And He used the funds from the sale of the property to bring the Gospel to countless numbers of both saved and lost souls, that He might be glorified. We are thankful that the Lord was pleased to use us this way. If we were asked to give one key lesson that we learned from this experience, it’s the words of Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”. When the Lord puts something in your heart, even if it sounds remotely possible, Just move ahead and leave it in His hands.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4984223286897071975.post-77619923617393593842023-11-22T21:51:00.003-04:002023-11-22T21:51:36.574-04:00Christmas and Easter Workshops in Schools
Several years ago, we were speaking to a school teacher who had responsibility for religious lessons. She lamented that science and history had all the fun subjects and that as far as she was concerned it was difficult to make the Bible interactive and fun. It was around Easter time and without giving it too much thought we made her an offer that if she could arrange for us to come into school for a day we would have something that would bring the Bible to life for all the classes.

Our first attempt was rather ‘home made’ but in the Lord’s goodness it was enough to get the idea started and it has grown to the point where along with a small team of helpers we have the privilege of presenting the Saviour to over 50 classes in Christmas and Easter workshops.

Ten years later some of the schools we have access to have changed, but we are grateful to the Lord that from that little start, several thousand young people and adults have heard about the central message of the Bible. We have also been able to adapt the material for use in halls and at community events – and using the materials in videos (see link at our website www.praiseandcrown.org) which was particularly useful during the pandemic.

What have we learnt? Be willing to think imaginatively about how to present the greatest message! Using good quality visuals (such as those available at www.eikonbibleart.com and www.freebibleimages.org ) is important to engage attention. We try not to take short cuts on the quality of materials and giveaways. Likewise, it has been essential to adapt for different age groups – from basic story books with toddlers up to teaching using Bibles with teens. One teacher remarked “I always look forward to the new twist you put on the same story” and each year we specifically plan so that there is something different to previous
occasions. We are now exploring options for adapting the unchanging material to take advantage of the technology with which youngsters are very familiar.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4984223286897071975.post-27165795616717843882023-11-08T21:44:00.001-04:002023-11-08T21:44:09.652-04:00Informal Service At Local Nursing Home
Our experience has been an encouragement to the believers.

It started during COVID at the invitation of the local nursing home. The project itself is called "BibleCards". We started designing the cards then and have since produced and distributed around 100 copies of the game. My kids attend a Christian school in Stratford, Ontario and at the school they noticed a lot of kids playing the Pokemon card game. They came home and we discussed what to do about this since it is such a popular game. My oldest son Aaron and I both thought we should make a Christian card game which features characters from the Bible and their different strengths and weaknesses. So that is how the card game came about. The objective of the game is to "build" the characters with cards that relate to them. Whoever builds the most characters as gameplay continues wins. The cards have Bible verses and the Gospel message printed right on them. We are happy to share this with lostsheepfinders.com. Despite current PNE policy not to allow further religious groups to be represented, the Lord has kept the door open for this assembly outreach during the 15-day fair. The booth won the award one year for the best entry at the PNE. Many good conversations are held and believers who drop by express appreciation for the gospel presence at the fair, and for good literature and texts that are available. For the last 10 years on Halloween, we use the 2 hours to give out the gospel. The hall is opened for any needing rest rooms. 4 or 5 of the brothers are at tables outside of the hall, well-lighted, and we pass out 300 bags of treats. The bags are donated by a local convenience store.
We include in each bag a 12-month gospel verse wall calendar; a pocket calendar card with a gospel message on it; 2 new tracts; 2 leftover Sunday School papers; and a Little Bible, that is just KJV verses about salvation. When we started, the circulation was over 17,000. It is now under 10,000. But we pay the newspaper, and they stuff each paper and deliver them.

4. We give them out everywhere- at drive thru restaurants; with a tip in a restaurant; with a tip left for a taxi driver, shuttle bus driver, or housekeeper in a hotel; and to an interested conversant. It is encouraging to see the gospel going out online and in
various forms - Children's meetings, Gospel series, videos, articles, texts, and
verses! Among our own contacts and neighbours there are people that are
seeking, and finding the time they haven't had before to think about God. He
has a way of speaking loudly in the silence, and in our unique and unusual
circumstances surrounding this pandemic.

People can easily watch or read anything
from anywhere at the click of the mouse button or even as they wander through
the constantly-incoming feed on their social accounts. What about pointing them
to reliable gospel material that God can use to speak into their troubled
souls?
In the interest of 'getting the word out' to the
neighbourhood around our hall, we prepared 4x6" postcards including the
info and time of our online Sunday evening gospel message. The link is printed
on the card as well as a QR code that allows people to use their phone's camera
to go directly to our website to watch live.

With help from International Bible House we were able to print and set up Canada Post delivery to specific routes
at a very reasonable price. The process was easy and safe. We're used to
hand-delivering, but we're never able to get into apartment buildings - PLUS
with our current circumstances this was the smartest way to go.

We've put together a few visuals that could be used on
Facebook, to catch attention and link to a resource where the reader can read
or view a good gospel message. Similar to 'sharing' a youtube video to your
Facebook page, these images are linked to reputable gospel media. The result is
that someone who sees the 'virtual postcard' on your FB page and is interested,
can then click on the photo and go directly to where they can read or watch the
message online.

There are lots of other ways to generate short slideshows or
videos - ie right on Facebook, through Powerpoint etc. These are meant to catch
people's attention and can be used as a great way to share the gospel in our

There's nothing wrong with humility - unless it prevents us from sharing what God is doing. Another contributing factor to the paucity of posts is the time required to capture in writing an event or an outreach activity. Understood!

But anytime you have something you would like to share that might encourage others to reach out with the Gospel, be sure to contact us. This is an easy blog. Your post could be as short as a couple of sentences or paragraphs - along with a few pictures.

In December 2019, Matthew Cain, in conjunction with the North Street Gospel Hall, and a group of Christian workers organized two Christmas Carol Gospel programs. One was held at a community center in Sackville, Nova Scotia on a Saturday evening, and the second event was held Sunday evening at the North Street Gospel Hall

A cadre of workers distributed invitations beforehand in the neighbourhood. The events were also promoted on FaceBook and Twitter.

I had the privilege of sharing a brief Christmas Gospel message at both these community functions.

Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of Matthew Cain (aided by Andrew Swan) leading the singing of the carols. Matthew introduced each carol by offering a less than 60-second intro containing historical background to each carol, flavored with some appropriate wit.

The evening was a great success. Some of the community folks sat at the tables enjoying Christmas delicacies to the very end. Many expressed their gratitude. One couple said they sensed a 'spiritual joy' in the Christian young people who helped out. What an impression to be made!

No attempt to bridge this community event with a future Gospel service was made. It was simply a one-time event (may become an annual event) - with no strings attached. Wise! I am certain if anyone wanted more information, their request would have been granted. 😊

The Sunday evening session was held at the North Street Gospel Hall - in place of its regular Sunday evening Gospel service.

The format was similar. The crowd was much larger - with the main auditorium and balcony filled. People from all walks of life, of all ages, and diverse in their ethnicity and religious beliefs - attended.

More than one said how impressed they were with the acapella singing of the carols. The engagement was refreshing and the volume of the blended voices singing the rich lyrics of the Gospel Carols was soul-stirring. Our prayer is that the lyrics, the Gospel Message regarding the Incarnation, and the warmth and kindness of the Christians - would not only be soul-stirring but heart-reaching.

Many of us are not into crafts. Some of us definitely don't have the creative gene. A few of us
struggle to follow clearly detailed step-by-step instructions for even the simplest of craft-building activities. If you too are challenged in this regard - take heart! You will be able to do this easily.

Follow the few simple steps. Click on the links provided to purchase the basic supplies. Get a few of your friends together in early November for a morning or evening. Brew some coffee. Offer a few crackers - if you have no delicious sweets in the house - and long before midnight, you will have a supply of professional-looking and attractive Bible verse Christmas ornaments to share as a part of your Gospel outreach activities. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">A couple of years ago, I was staying in the home of Dave and Susie Curran, while helping in a Gospel effort with the Pennsauken, NJ assembly. Susie asked me if I would have a very short Gospel message for a group of women she was having over to their home for a brunch. I agreed. She told me she would be inviting, from the community, all the women in her life who impacted or interacted with her and her family over the years.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I wasn't sure what to expect but as the cars started filling their driveway and parking on the street, I realized an impressive number of women were coming to the Curran home. Former babysitters, teachers, an obstetrician, work associates, etc. It seemed that many of them were contacts through their Moms and Tots program. If I remember correctly, there were approximately 50 who came for brunch.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">This is not a bragging matter. It is simply an effort to share an idea with you and to encourage you - wherever you may live - to try the same thing or something similar. We all have people in our lives. You may not do it twice a year. Maybe you won't even do it annually. Perhaps you will just do it once.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">But who would turn down a delicious meal, a little gift-package to take home, and possibly a five minute message of love and light from the Bible?!! Even if you don't have the courage to share a five minute message - just showing kindness and Christian love, along with giving thanks for the food - would make lasting impressions and strengthen relationships.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Perhaps you want to wait until next summer. But its not too early to start to pray about it and to think of the possibilities. Start making your list of people you could invite. Set a date. And if you are afraid, by the time next Spring or Summer rolls around, you might 'drop the ball' on this or put it off another year - send out a 'heads-up' - a 'reserve the date-range' alert now for next Spring or Summer. Put your intentions in writing now and then it is more difficult to procrastinate in eight months time.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I asked Susie to share a few details in this post which she has kindly done below. -Peter Ramsay

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We have been doing the Moms and Tots program at our local assembly for quite a number of years now. Among other things, this has brought me into contact with many women from the community.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Over the years, we have had many people from our neighborhood and the surrounding area who have come faithfully to the Moms and Tots program and have brought along their friends as well. While we are sure to include the message of the gospel with each
lesson, I wanted to have a way for ladies in my life, including the Moms and
Tots adults, to be able to hear the gospel clearly. I thought by using the
venue of my home it would be a way to do so.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So, I have had two brunches a
year - Easter time and Christmas when I invite the ladies in my life - neighbors,
friends, Moms and Tots adults, co-workers, etc. They come for a meal and then a
short message is given to them. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This has been a great avenue for conversation and has brought about some
great discussions about eternal matters. I love using our home for the
Lord, as we feel it belongs to Him and we are just trying to be good stewards
of what He has given us. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Many of these women attend their own churches on
Sunday; so, this has been nice way to share the gospel with them, regardless of
their background. Many of the women look forward to it and have also
asked to bring along a friend! <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I do send home a plant with the ladies and
a Bible based children book to the moms of young children. I like to give
at Christmas time a Bible calendar for the new year to them as well. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I
feel by inviting these ladies into our home - they will see what is important to
me and, hopefully, it is a testimony to all who come.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">Anyone interested in
doing something similar, I would suggest to start small. Just ask the
ladies in your neighborhood, or a small group of women in your life. It
will grow quickly. It has proven to be a blessing to me on so many levels!

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">"Only one life twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last."

Most people we meet each day know of no one who is praying for them, or for that matter - anyone who would be interested in praying for them. In Christian circles, we are perhaps too accustomed to other Christians saying: "I will be praying for you." On the receiving end, we could possibly take their prayers for granted. Or we could assure them of our prayers and then be somewhat unfaithful in consistently praying for their needs.

But for those outside of Christian circles - praying is church-talk. For someone in distress or crisis-mode to learn that a Christian is willing to pray for them - that's light in their darkness. Their contact with you in a time of crisis, may be the means of seeing them eventually won to Christ. But even if they show absolutely no interest in the Gospel, it is still our Christian duty to do good, show kindness and to pray for them.

Recently we've added to the heaven4sure.com website, a Prayer Request Form. Have you thought of adding a similar form to your website?
Sometimes we do 'good works' as merely a strategy to ultimately see people respond to the Gospel. And if, after several attempts of showing kindness, they don't respond, we get discouraged and move on - because our strategy failed. The reality is, Christians should show kindness and do good works - not as a strategy but as the outflow of one's redeemed and regenerated heart. We are to do good for the sake of doing good. Period.

Often the only time our neighbours ever hear from us is when we drop an invitation in their mailbox to attend a special Gospel service. What do we do to show them we are just 'nice' people? NICE regardless.

Recently in St. John's, Newfoundland, I noticed special Christmas bags and a few other things around the lobby and auditorium of the local church. And then I heard an announcement about Christmas Baskets for the Neighbourhood. I asked one of the Christian sisters, Cathy Tarrant, if she would prepare a report for lostsheepfinders.com and share enough details about the activity that others will be able to try the idea in their area. She kindly submitted this report:
We started this work about 5
years ago. It started as an exercise of Ruby Williams. She
discussed it with me and we decided to go ahead and do a dozen baskets for the
houses in the immediate vicinity of the hall. [Gospel Hall / local church] The next year we expanded
and with others helping, we did 25. For the last 3 years (including
this one), we have been distributing 50 baskets.
chocolate.
Ruby has not been able to help much for the past 2 years due to
her severe medical issues, so this year we are trying something new. All
the unfilled bags have been brought to the hall and the Christians are
encouraged to take a bag or 2 to fill and bring back to the hall by a certain
date for distribution. Each bag already contains the Christmas booklet
and tract.

This work is another way we have
been trying to reach the people in the neighbourhood. We have a community
barbeque every summer, complete with a Bouncey Castle for the kids, balloon

encouraging even though it is a lot of work!
Peter Ramsay - heaven4sure!http://www.blogger.com/profile/16949328525934808804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4984223286897071975.post-53922938411596959012017-10-31T22:56:00.000-03:002017-10-31T22:59:15.067-03:00Heaven4sure Tip and Prayer CardI have been thinking about a small, inexpensive, easy-to-carry, business-card-size card to pass to servers, cashiers and others as a way of personal evangelizing. I envisioned using this card with a standard, to-be-expected tip or as a surprise tip - where and when you wouldn't ordinarily give a tip.

In many ways, the surprise tip is more memorable. Your purchase of a chocolate bar may cost less than the surprise-gift-tip you attach to the little evangelism business card. So here is the two-sided card I came up with and have been using for a couple of months.

On the reverse side is a simple message about being a Christian. No big preach. The idea is to link a surprise act of generous kindness (perhaps unmerited) to someone who is simply a Christian. The second purpose is to let the person know you pray and you would be happy to pray for something in their life. By the way, very few people know someone who is actively praying for them.

You can print your name and email address in the box provided. Now they know how to contact you.

You may never hear from the person. That's okay. If you gave them an unexpected tip and it registered in their minds that the person who gave it to them loved Christ - then, your $5.00 surprise was definitely worth it.

But occasionally you will get an email. I have.

I picked up a box of small little envelopes. Each day I have been trying to remember to put one of the

cards in the envelope, along with a $5 bill and then have it in my shirt pocket to give to someone. I write on the outside of the little envelope - "A little tip for you. $" I put the $ sign on the envelope - so they will be sure to open it.
Christmas and Easter are two important dates on calendars used by 7,575,018,210 people (as of a few minutes ago) in the world. Other belief systems, know very little about the Christian faith.
Friday, December 01, 2017 is not too early to start your activity as a local church or as an individual to share the eternally-significant meaning of Christmas. Seize every opportunity. If you are to be ready by December 01st - you need to start planning a minimum of 6 weeks in advance.

Do some brainstorming with your friends as to how many different ways you could get the 'message of Christ' out during the month of December. See how long your list can grow. What a great way to spend a couple of hours with your friends! Not really a game - but it could be fun, as well as spiritually motivating. It would be exciting to see the list of possibilities growing and growing.

As in any brain-storming session - don't debate the merits of each idea as they are put forward by the participants. No discussion. Just record every idea contributed. Once you have a long list - then start the discussion as to which ideas have merit and potential and what is doable and which ideas would be the most God-honouring and Christ-centric.

Think outside the box but inside the Book.

Prayerfully develop your action plan and assign responsibilities and get to work. You want to have everything ordered and received and ready to go by the first week of December. November will whiz by like a blur. Get at it now.

Have you thought of electronic Christmas cards with a link to a good Christmas message on a website?

If you are just one Christian and, by yourself, you would like to enclose a Christmas tract with your cards - here is a new one available: The World's Most Expensive Tree It is based on an original post on heaven4sure. For the price of three burger & fries combos, you can have 500 tracts!

In addition to Bible Truth Publishers, who offer the new tract above, you can also browse GospelFolioPress website for their Christmas material. There is no need for anyone to say - "If there was some good Christmas material available - I would use it."

Moments With The Book also offer a wide variety of Christmas tracts.

For the tech-savvy - many of the tracts that are available in hard-copy, can also be copied and pasted into your Christmas email.

Let's pray there will be more Gospel and personal evangelism efforts this December than at any other time in history. That's not too big a prayer to pray nor beyond the power of the Holy Spirit to achieve. We have more outreach tools available to us than at any other time in the history of the Church!

Think of just the opportunities on social media. Look at this social media graph updated this month:

Also, we have more people to reach with the Gospel than at any other time in the history of the planet. In fact, since I started typing this post, 5,877 new people have been born. As I sign off, the available audience for our Christmas message stands at 7,575,024,087.

If you would like to share your ideas about what we could be doing to share Christ during December, leave your comments below. Spread the message. Share this post. Also, if you are new to this site, search here for other Christmas-related ideas!

Today, I received a hand-written letter from a Christian who is hoping to move to a Care Home in the near future. Clarence wrote: "You can only fight old age so long; it always wins. We are 89 this year."

And then he wrote:

I have been thinking of how to reach more people with the Gospel, as they mostly will not come to our Gospel meetings. The enclosed message is to phone people and ask for their permission to read a message to them. That might work! And other saints should be able to do this also - with their own name.

Show this to some others and see what they say. Put your own name where mine is and pray for the Lord's help.

The enclosed message that 89 year old Clarence referred to was typed. I imagined his enthusiasm and excitement as his fingers touched each letter on the keyboard. I don't know whether he has achy arthritic joints or supple ones that enabled his fingers to excitedly fly across the keyboard. One thing I do know is - he still has a love, a passion and a pulse for the good news of Jesus Christ. It wouldn't surprise me if he sincerely, in his heart-of-hearts, truly believes the Gospel is the only message that can transform a sinner's life on earth and prepare them for Heaven!!

I sensed his optimism. Where there's a will, there's a way. The passion - the pulse led to a plan. Was this for others to try out - or would he actually do it himself? This is the man that, decades earlier, came up with another telephone Gospel-sharing-scheme. Each week, he would record a 2 or 3 minute Gospel message based on a human-interest story. He would advertise the telephone number and hundreds of people would call and listen to his little story. In 2017, people may not find that technology very exciting.

Here's how his typed enclosure read -- (By the way, shhh!!! I never asked for his permission to post this so publicly online. But between you and me, I think he was hoping the idea would be shared and that you will try the same thing. I hope this breach-of-confidentiality doesn't scare you off from writing me a similar letter or email!) Here is how he envisions the phone calls might go:

Dear Sir or Madam

My name is Clarence Budd. I live in Riverview, N.B. Could I have about four minutes of your time to talk to you about something that is very important? OK!

I don't want you to buy or sell or do anything for me. I just want to talk to you about the most important thing in life. And that is getting ready for the NEXT life.

The life we now live is very short. We know that - if we look back. It has gone by very quickly.

The next life lasts forever. It will never end. There is one of two places to go when we leave this life. One place is HEAVEN - that is where God wants us to be. The price has already been paid for us to go there. When Christ was on the cross, He was punished for us, so that we could go to Heaven freely forgiven from all our sins.
Do I have a Gospel vision? When have I crafted my own little scheme, with excitement, for getting the Gospel to people? It wasn't just a fanciful and fleeting idea. At 89, he took the time to hand-write a letter, type up an enclosure, lick a foul-tasting stamp and mail the envelope. (Maybe not - it could have been a self-adhesive stamp....so, Peter, don't get carried away with words.)

You can tell by what he writes, he envisions this approach working - for churched people and unchurched. New people to his city from other places in the world who may know nothing about the Bible or Jesus Christ. All of them are potential telephone candidates.

I have heard the same brother pray and break-down (weep) at the thought of souls perishing.

What's urgent in my life? Do I care if people perish forever? Is it enough for me that I have been delivered - I have found the wonderful cure for the malignancy of sin but I have too many other things in life to occupy my mind. They will have to find-out about the cure some other way.

Robocalls and call centers are used for politics, by big banks and for many other reasons. I wonder what the impact would be of a tastefully and faithfully worded brief Gospel robocall? Does some Christian want to financially invest in such an enterprise? But back to you - maybe this is something you may wish to try - using your own words. One phone call a day!

Canadians love their country. 2017 is the 150th anniversary of our young nation. Celebrations, throughout the year, are happening across the country to mark this milestone year. July 01st - Canada Day is a big event every year, but this year there are plans for even bigger and better celebrations.

The International Bible House (IBH) sees a great opportunity for Christians and local assemblies across the country to get involved in not only recognizing the anniversary of the nation of Canada - but also using it as an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

A five page booklet featuring stories from across Canada is being finalized for publication. You can see it below.

Perhaps you haven't thought about it - but wouldn't it be great if, in local areas, Christians seized this opportunity to distribute these Gospel Messengers! There's a place on the brochure for you to localize it by stamping or affixing a label supplying local contact information.

If you are reading this just now and thinking: 'I hope someone in our area sees this and does something about it...' Why don't you start the ball rolling?

The cost of each booklet will probably be between 15 cents and 20 cents each - depending on quantities printed.

If you think your area could use some, please email ordersibh@gmail.com
or ibhpublications@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Even if you are not ready to make a commitment to a certain quantity - IBH would even appreciate your expression of interest.

It was held on Saturday evening, December 10, 2016.

Matthew Cain said 2500 invitations were distributed around the neighbourhood and many contacts were invited to the 45 minute long service. It was followed by a lunch in the basement - yes, scrumptious Christmas Baking, coffee and apple cider.

It was also announced on Facebook and Twitter. A local Member of Parliament retweeted the notice to all his followers.

150 people showed up, filling the main level with some choosing to sit in the balcony. The singing was acapella. Several visitors commented on the quality of the lyrics projected on the screen and how much they enjoyed the singing. Singing positions alternated between sitting and standing.

A brief message (approximately 10 minutes) pertaining to Christmas and the Gospel was given - aided by 9 PowerPoint slides.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">As the door opens, you can hear the group sing that well-known verse, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Glory to the newborn king!

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Every year, we gather a group of people to join us around our community to go Christmas Caroling. This will be our eighth year. It has become a staple to our Christmas tradition.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">What makes it special for our family is friends who join us every year. Others try it once or twice but generally most find the time very worthwhile. It is amazing how precious and profound the lyrics to our traditional Christmas hymns are, as we sing “Jesus” to our neighborhood.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Let me share why I believe Christmas Caroling may be the last open door-to-door outreach left in America people openly receive:

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It is relevant. Statistics show the Christmas season is the most open time of the year for people to hear the meaning of the gospel. It is demonstrated by increased church attendance, publicly played music and faith-based television specials with Christmas themes. There is something about baby Jesus that attracts people. We regularly hear our neighbors say with a smile, “No one has ever carolled for us before!” We even get offers of food for singing and pictures taken of us.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It is biblical. Jesus commands us to share his message. Going door-to-door with a Bible may be taboo any other time of the year, but during Christmas Season, singing the gospel is still captivating. There is something special about singing the old carols. Biblical truth speaks loud and clear in our music, as we sing the recognizable songs.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It is relational. We often get to talk to our neighbors once done singing. In our busy lives, rarely do we get to know many neighbors. Yet, through caroling we have one moment where conversing and relating to one another takes place. One year, a family who in the previous year was so ministered to by our singing joined us the following year. And since they spoke Spanish, they were able to share Christ with the non-English speakers that we could not.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">When we first started caroling in our neighborhood, I honestly didn’t think of it in terms of evangelism and outreach. It was just something fun to do that brought people together. But as we continue in the tradition, the opportunities have grown for sharing Jesus to a lost world. After we sing, we hand out Story of Jesus for Children and Magdalena DVDs. With so many languages available, we usually have one for all the languages spoken in our neighborhood.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">For more ideas of Gospel outreach ideas at Christmas time on this blog type in 'christmas' in the search box. There are four or five additional articles. Also click here

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Our wonderful experiences doing door-to-door singing have shown me people are hungry for a Savior! We have that person in Jesus, but how we approach people with the gospel matters. Christmas Caroling still works in our secular world.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The tom-toms thumped on all night, and the
darkness shuddered around me like a living feeling thing. I could not go to sleep, so I lay awake and
looked; and I saw, and it seemed like this:

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">That I stood on a grassy plateau, and at my
feet a precipice broke sheer down into infinite space. I looked, but saw no bottom; only cloud
shapes, black and furiously coiled, and great shadow-shrouded hollows and
unfathomable depths. Back I drew, dizzy
at the depth.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Then I saw forms of people moving single
file along the grass. They were making
for the edge. There was a woman with the baby in her arms and another little
child holding on to her dress. She was
on the very verge. Then I saw that she
was blind. She lifted her foot for the
next step… It trod air. She was over,
and the children over with her. Oh, the
cry as they went over!

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Then I saw more streams of people flowing
from all quarters. All were blind, stone
blind; all made straight for the precipice edge. There were shrieks as they suddenly
knew themselves falling, and a tossing up of helpless arms, catching, clutching
at empty air. But some went over quietly
and fell without a sound.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Then I wondered, with a wonder that was
simply agony, why no one stopped them at the edge. I could not.
I was glued to the ground, and I could not call. Though I strained and tried, only a whisper
came.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Then I saw that along the edge there were sentries
set at intervals. But the intervals were
far too great; there were wide, unguarded gaps between. And over these gaps the people fell in their
blindness, quite unwarned; and the green grass seemed blood-red to me, and the
gulf yawned like the mouth of Hell.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Then I saw, like the picture of peace, a
group of people under some trees, with their backs toward the gulf. They were making daisy chains. Sometimes when a piercing shriek cut the
quiet air and reached them, it disturbed them and they thought it a rather
vulgar noise. And if one of their
numbers started up and wanted to go and do something to help, then all the
others would pull that one down. Why
should you get so excited about it? You
must wait for a definite ‘call’ to go.
You haven’t finished your daisy chains.
“It would be really selfish,” they said, “to leave us to finish this
work alone.”

anywhere – the gap would be well taken care of, they knew. And they sang a
hymn.

The possibilities and venues for Gospel outreach seem almost limitless. I'm encouraged and energized when believers share things they are humbly trying to do to share the Gospel. It's difficult to get stories and examples for this blog as Christians are afraid some might think they are bragging or boasting about their efforts. Of course - they are not! Actually, by sharing such examples and stories, others are encouraged to become active in some new little venture for the Lord.

To keep things in perspective - for decades, we've been sharing news about special Gospel meetings held around the country either as pioneer efforts or as assembly sponsored activities. People have found such information helpful and encouraging over the years. So this blog expands on that concept. There's much, much more to Gospel work than public preaching.

Here's the latest example of a little personal outreach activity from a couple in Manitoba. The first paragraph of the letter below explains the approach this couple is using to share the Gospel.

Dear Friend,

We have never met and it’s not likely we ever will. This is not a mass mailing program. We don’t represent a group, religion or denomination. Let me tell you how you have received this letter. We live in Southern Manitoba, Canada. Each morning I pull up Google Maps and scan the entire United States of America and Canada. Of the approximate 150 million homes or so, I select three. It could be in any state, province, city or town. Google maps provides me with the address and code and I mail this letter.

You see, I am a Christian and believe that there is a wonderful message of Hope to be shared. This message is found in John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave His only Begotten SON, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have Everlasting life”. This verse of 25 words shows me what God did in the first 12 words and what I needed to do in the last 12 words. The 13th or middle word is “SON”. We find God through His Son.

This morning your home was selected as one in about 50 million. As I wrote your address on the envelope, I prayed that it will not be by chance that the message of the enclosed pamphlet finds you at a time when it could bring Hope to your life. I prayed for the blessing of God on you and your family.

One day, perhaps very soon, the world as we know it today will end. The Bible speaks clearly of this. What also will end is the opportunity to receive God’s amazing gift of his free grace and forgiveness ; “The Gift of God which is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ.” It’s a gift – you don’t work for it – you believe and receive it. I ask that you read this material carefully and with a sense of urgency. It can change your eternity.

If you have a Bible, begin to read in the Gospel of John in the New Testament. Read the first five chapters several times over the next while. Ask God to speak to you and he will. Perhaps you have never had much time for the Bible. Over time as you begin to read these chapters, God through his Holy Spirit will show you truths about Himself and yourself. God desires to know you personally through his Son Jesus Christ. This is the way to Eternal Life.

Jeremiah 29:13 says “You shall seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart”

A website I enjoy is www.heaven4sure.com . I think you will find their articles interesting. I recommend a video called “The Last Adam” found under the “NEWS” tab. It will be 15 minutes well spent.

We hope you have a wonderful day. May God richly bless you.

On the reverse side of the letter, more information is shared about their family to add a personal touch and to show that the letter is not from some dubious kook. You may not feel comfortable sharing similar information with people you don't know, but you will be able to add your own personal touch that reflects your comfort level.

So here is the reverse side of the letter:

I’ve always had an interest in maps. As a boy I would sit down with a large atlas and stare at small towns and interesting places and begin to wonder what those people did every day, how they made their living and most of all why they would find themselves living in that particular small location on this great map. People were likely raised there and never moved away. Perhaps employment took people to a new setting.

We live in a very small community in southern Manitoba. Our roots are Vancouver Island. That’s where we were raised and married. We spent 23 years in Calgary, Alberta and now the past 13 years in Manitoba.

Since beginning this little effort of sending out 3 letters per day, I’ve been reminded of two important things. One day my mouse pointer will zoom in on what looks to be a very modest home in a district where people may struggle financially. The next day it may focus on a home backing an expensive golf course in a high valued location. It reminds me that the message of God’s Love is the same for the rich and poor, or any color, ethnicity or gender. God’s love transcends all of our differences and He has chosen to love “All Men”, everywhere, no matter who we are or where on the map we are found. That’s the wonder of the message of the Gospel. I invite you to take some thoughtful minutes and ponder the future. God’s love and forgiveness is available to all.

We live a simple, rural life, but God has given us incredible wealth through a large, wonderful family. For this we feel blessed without measure. But more important to us is Salvation which brings me into a far greater family – God’s eternal family. The secure Hope of Life Eternal is not something that I would trade for anything. I marvel every day that this treasure is a Gift. Romans 6:23 says “For the Wages of Sin is Death but the Gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. None deserve it. We are all born as sinners, undeserving of God’s Love and yet Romans 5:8 says “But God displayed His Love towards us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Among other things in the email, he shared a little story that encouraged their hearts recently. I am pasting that story below, praying that it will encourage you in your work with children.

Merle and I
continue at the Women’s Prison and were encouraged a week ago in speaking from
Isa 1:18, where God is calling people to come and reason with Him. In the
middle of speaking, a lady of about 30, spoke out cheerfully saying, “Wow, I
never understood before what Jesus really did on the cross when He died for my
sins.” We think she may have been saved, but we are not permitted to visit
individually.

Also while visiting the prison on another occasion, I spoke on the 4 colours - hearts black
with sin, blood (red) of our Lord
Jesus cleansing and making our hearts white; and the gold streets of Heaven.

We
then taught them the song, I’m sure you
know it… Our
hearts were black with sin,Until
the Saviour came in,His
precious blood I know,Has
washed me white as snow,And
in God’s Word, I’m told, I’ll
walk the streets of gold,Oh
wonderful, wonderful day,He
washed my sins away.

One of the
dear ladies seemed deeply touched, and said, “I know that song and all the time
you were speaking, I was thinking about that song, and I have always remembered
those colours!”

We asked her where
she learned it. She said she came from a First Nations community in northern
Saskatchewan, and when she was a girl she went to a kids club in a little
mission in the village and the man and his wife. who ran the mission, taught the
kids that song.

It pretty much
made us cry, to think of a dear couple, whoever they were, sowing the Good Seed
in a far off lonely community, likely wondering at times if it was worth it –
and here was a lady sitting in prison, maybe 20 years later, that still
remembered! We felt God had drawn very
near to all of us that morning and we have hopes this lady will one day gather
with that couple around the Throne of God.

Think of those 20 years since she first heard that song. Think of all the dark thoughts that passed through her mind; think of all the deep wounds that are burned into her memory; think of all the inner grief that she has lived with over those 20 years – – amidst the darkness, think of that chorus shining -- yes shining as probably the only light in her life. Never to be forgotten in her life and throughout eternity is that Christian couple who travelled to her community faithfully and shared, through stories and songs, the wonderful truth of the gospel.

You may be looking for tangible results immediately or at least in the near future. Keep on loving the children; keep on showing them kindness; keep on responding tenderly to them, even when they may have some annoying times; keep on telling them about Jesus; and keep on singing songs that are packed full of the gospel.

In November, I sent out a message
informing people about a week of evangelistic outreach in Halifax this summer.
Lord willing, we are going ahead with these plans.

In consideration of the Lord’s
call for us to “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole
creation” (Mark 16:15), and remembering that people are “born again … through
the living and abiding word of God” (1Peter 1:23), and that we have the
privilege of being “ambassadors for Christ”, “working together with Him” (2Cor
5:20; 6:1), we are proposing a multi-pronged gospel outreach, that we expect
will include:

Seed
Sowers / Gospel Text delivery door to door in Halifax (exact community TBD)

Street
Evangelism downtown Halifax, including tract distribution and open air gospel
meetings

Children’s
Meetings in a tent

There will also be daily Bible
teaching sessions, with the content of the teaching directed towards younger
believers. We will hold such sessions in the evenings, and likely in the
mornings as well.

Evenings will potentially involve
hymn singing, the above mentioned open air gospel preaching, campfires, or
other activity, including the regular mid-week meeting of the assembly here on
Wednesday night. The final day of the week will be a day off to enjoy some
sunshine and outdoor activities.

This is a great opportunity for
young believers to be involved in the spread of the gospel and receive some
sound, consecutive teaching. We also look forward to families joining us to
enjoy this week together as a family. There are multiple ways people can
be involved, including distribution of texts, driving people around the
communities where they will be delivering texts, and helping with suppers as
well.

This will be taking place July
13-17, with arrival of anyone from out of town expected on Sunday, July 12th.
Due to the amount of organization that is required to carry out this plan, and
also because of the need to purchase food and arrange meals for the group, REGISTRATION
IS REQUIRED. I know that many people will have some interest, but tend to
be hesitant in finalizing their plans. You will likely need to put this week
into your calendar and commit to coming in advance.

There will be a REGISTRATION
DEADLINE, likely June 15th. Registration will involve two
steps. 1) Filling out a form, signing it, and sending it to me; 2) Submitting a
nominal registration fee of $10 (if more than one person in a family is
attending, $20 will cover the entire family). You will not be considered
registered until both of these steps are completed. Depending on the response
and accommodation availability here, there may be a limited number of spaces
available. You are not considered “registered” merely by replying to an email
or a Facebook “event”.

Anyone under the age of 16 who
wants to participate must have a parent with them in order to participate in
this week.

Accommodations for the week can
be arranged by yourself or through me. Options will include space in local
believers’ homes (while space is available), booking space at a local
campground, or a room at a local university dorm (likely Mount Saint Vincent
University in Bedford, at a relatively inexpensive nightly rate as the
University is happy to rent out these rooms in the summer time when students
are gone). Obviously, those that register first and request accommodation
in local believers’ homes will be the first ones to be granted those limited
spaces. As with Seed Sowers events in Ottawa and other places that some of you
have attended in the past, lunch purchases will be your responsibility. A
delicious supper will be provided free of charge at the hall each evening.

The outreach is being carried out
in fellowship with the local church meeting at North Street Gospel Hall. The
main objectives of the week are to spread the gospel and to provide good Bible
teaching for young believers. Working together with likeminded Christians,
serving the Lord together as a family, and just enjoying the Christian
fellowship will also be a blessing. Attendees will have to adhere to a small
number of rules – it is not a free-for-all week for you to do whatever you want
in Halifax. The delivery of texts is an important part of the week, but
we do not want you to be so exhausted from that aspect of the work that your
minds will not be fresh enough to appreciate the Bible teaching sessions.
We are not going to work you to the bone, but neither is it a week’s holiday.
It involves a serious and mature commitment, but we fully expect all who
participate to enjoy the time and develop further happy memories stemming from
Christian friendship and evangelistic outreach.

We feel it is great for young
people, non-young people, and families to be jointly involved in spreading the
gospel. I know for some of you this will involve taking a week of vacation from
work and we think it will be well worth it. That is one reason we are trying to
give you plenty of notice.
