Community Supper in Halifax

Someone once quipped: "If it takes a weenie roast to get them, it will take a weenie roast to keep them." A sharp little saying but I hope it never deters a local assembly from hosting a community supper and opening its doors to welcome the community in. Who was more concerned about feeding the community and feeding individuals than Christ Himself!

This evening in Halifax at the North Street Gospel Hall a community supper was held in the basement - one hour prior to the Gospel meeting.  An excellent number attended. Some were there from the youth work in Dartmouth. A large group of 'struggling' men associated with the Salvation Army and Turning Point were there. Some of the Christians had their friends there. Some family members from the Monday School (Children's work) were there. And when asked if their pictures could be taken, the response was 'Yes!'  - so here are a few:

The food was delicious and many of the Christians mingled with the visitors and made them feel very welcome.

Yes, it makes for some fast work to pull off a supper that starts at 6PM and then move into a Gospel meeting at 7PM. But if the gap between the supper is too long, some may eat and leave rather than wait.

So while many were still eating, it was announced that singing would commence upstairs at 6:45PM. Most who attended the community supper stayed for the Gospel meeting.

This, of course, was not the first time the assembly sponsored a Sunday evening community supper. Yes, its a great deal of work for those who prepare the delicious food and attend to all the details - but how thrilling it is to welcome people in to feed them with the best of food and then to have them listen to the best of messages - the Gospel.

Good work. I like the opening of the article. I think i know who may have "quipped" that.
I agree, a community supper is in keeping with the character of Christ Himself.
